Constructing a garden retaining wall generally requires some careful engineering planning and design. With our ever changing climate, our homes, gardens, walls and roads are all being subjected to a lot of movement and wear and tear.
Take this project for instance. Over the years the huge woodland embankment at the rear of our clients property has slowly eroded away their rear garden, so much so that the house itself was being put at risk of moving.
Derwood Homes was called in to design a scheme that would enable us to build a huge garden retaining wall as cost affectively as possible for our clients in Cardiff South Wales before their home slipped down the embankment. With no access for excavators or machinery it meant that the whole embankment had to be dug out by hand. The only option was to construct a gabion basket retaining wall approx. 8m high x 16m wide.
Using over 240 gabion baskets, 500 tonne of stone and shear hard work we got the job done and added another happy customer to add list, including the dog who gain a new back garden to run around in.
